All Hauptwerk instruments are uniquely identified according to ID codes. Hauptwerk uses these codes to identify which instrument components are required for which organs, which versions of those components are permissible, and to inform the user where they may obtain or update components as necessary. The unique codes are also used internally by Hauptwerk when creating its data and cache files, and so that it is able to ascertain which files relate to which organs.

There are three types of codes that are used to perform these functions, each a 6-digit number:

• Supplier ID - identifies the supplier of the instrument, so that the customer may be directed to the supplier of an instrument if it is found to be missing or at too low a version.


• Installation package ID - all of the instrument data, excluding the organ definition file, is bundled into self-contained and non-overlapping 'installation packages'. A given instrument may comprise one or more of these packages. More than one can be used if a large instrument is to be sold in cut-down parts, or if it needs to be broken down into several discrete downloadable components, each of which forms a usable subset in its own right. No two installation packages should ever contain the same sample, image or other component. Each package has a unique ID, and a package definition file (e.g. named PackageID000001.InstallationPackageDefinition_Hauptwerk_xml) which defines its supplier and version. All samples and images that are used in an organ definition file are referenced via their package ID, and Hauptwerk verifies that the required packages and versions are present before allowing the organ definition file to be loaded.


• Organ ID - a globally unique code for the organ definition file. This code is used by Hauptwerk to attach user data (such as combination and settings files) and cached sample files to the organ definition file. As with the other types of codes, it is absolutely critical that no two organs ever exist with the same ID number otherwise all of the related files would be overwritten if a user were to install both organs on a given computer.

All of these codes must be unique across all instruments and organs available for Hauptwerk. To achieve that, this page maintains a list of up to date allocated codes. If you wish to create a instrument, organ definition file, or temperament file, please just contact us and we will allocate the required codes, then list them here (at no charge).
